TOUKON BESSAKU is a deluxe Madake Jissengata Shinai, which features a large 'Dou' section, placing the balance close to the hands, and narrows to a fine light, tip. This makes TOUKON BESSAKU easy to maneuver, and perfect for multiple, sharp strikes.
All Shinai from Mikatsuki Budogu are made using bamboo grown in our own facility, and all plants are hand selected for optimum performance. Final adjustments are also made by expert craftsmen to ensure a final product that is both well balanced, and reliable.
Great for nito!

I ordered the ladies 39 to cut down for nito. The weight before cutting was +460g, which made for a perfect 443g after cutting.
I was planning to use another shinai for the national championships, but ended up using this one instead, even though I got it just one day before. Helped me all the way through to semifinals! Great balance, good, solid construction and well designed grip for katate-waza. 5/5 ordering another set tonight.
Good alternative for Nito

I originally wanted to purchase the Kamakiri NIto Daito, which I had found to be very good but was told it was out of stock, with no planned date of return. I was told that this shinai, in size 37, was a good alternative and liked by many Nito practitioners. I love the hexagonal/oval grip, which makes it very easy to hold, especially since I have big hands. The shinai is solidly made (for a 37), I've tested it in both practice and shiai, and it has held up very well. The weight was not an issue, all three being between 445-455, after prepping and seasoning). The only downside (compared to the Kamakiri) is the balance; the dou section is higher up because of the longer tsuka, the difference isn't huge, but it is noticeable. Hence the 4stars.
I love these shinais!

I think these are my new favorite series of shinais. I use both a 39 and 37 for Nito. Excellent balance and quite durable for a Dobari class. For those who intend to use these for Nito however, the size 37 has bit of a weight to it(470g to 490g) so I recommend getting a size 39L and just cut it to 37 as that would leave you with around 440g to 460g. Not to mention, a larger tsuka.
